SUMMARY:The Role of Reforestation in Carbon Markets through Climate Forward
DESCRIPTION:Climate Forward\, a global greenhouse gas mitigation program of the Climate Action Reserve\, accelerates action on climate change by encouraging companies and organizations to proactively support today projects that mitigate future greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Critical to Climate Forward is our Reforestation Forecast Methodology\, which has recently gone through several exciting updates and enhancements\, including the option for projects and their associated Forecasted Mitigation Units (FMUs) to be transferred to the Reserve’s voluntary carbon crediting program under a corresponding forest protocol for issuance of Climate Reserve Tonnes (CRTs). \nIn this overview webinar\, join our in-house forestry experts Jon Remucal\, Associate Director of Nature-Based Solutions\, and Marissa Spence\, Forest Manager\, as we provide guidance to account for\, report\, and confirm forecasted GHG emission removals associated with reforestation activities and share how reforestation projects done right can help achieve net-zero goals with integrity\, transparency\, and ambition. \nRegistration Link: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/7573657517253697549

SUMMARY:Reforestation Forecast Methodology v2.0 Public Comment Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Register: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/996373459380614160 \nThe Reserve is hosting a webinar to discuss the draft Reforestation Forecast Methodology v2.0 in detail and to solicit public comment. The methodology provides revised guidance for eligibility\, quantification\, reporting\, and confirmation of reforestation projects\, including updated guidance on the selection and use of forest growth projections\, revised discounting approaches\, new baseline quantification requirements\, and the expansion of eligible pools to include soil carbon under limit circumstances\, among other revision. Furthermore\, guidance has been incorporated to indicate the ability of projects and their associated Forecasted Mitigation Units (FMUs) to be transferred to the Reserve’s traditional carbon crediting program under the Forest Project Protocol for issuance of Climate Reserve Tonnes (CRTs).

SUMMARY:Avoided Wildfire Emissions Kickoff Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Reserve for an overview of the Climate Forward program’s Avoided Wildfire Emissions Forecast Methodology development process. \nThe Reserve is developing a forecast methodology under its Climate Forward program to recognize the climate benefits associated with fuel treatment activities that lower the risk of catastrophic forest fires and the emissions associated with them. Megafires across the western U.S. have increased in scale\, intensity\, and frequency and have become major emissions sources. Known management options\, such as mechanical fuel treatments and prescribed fires\, can moderate the severity of such fires and provide GHG benefits over the long term\, in addition to limiting other impacts\, including the loss of life\, property destruction\, and impaired air and water quality. \nThe methodology is being developed in partnership with Spatial Informatics Group (SIG) and will build on SIG’s prior work in this area and draw from a range of stakeholders with expertise in the ecology and GHG impacts of wildfires\, as well as in carbon project development. Funding support is being provided by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) through a Forest Health Grant as part of the California Climate Investments Program\, as well as by Element Markets and the Coalition for the Upper South Platte.

SUMMARY:Confirmation Body Training for Climate Forward
DESCRIPTION:The Reserve’s Climate Forward program provides a practical solution to companies and organizations seeking cost-effective mitigation of anticipated (i.e.\, future) operational and/or project-related GHG emissions. In order to receive Forecasted Mitigation Units (FMUs) for the anticipated emission reductions\, every project must conduct a confirmation\, in which an accredited third-party ensures the projected GHG emissions reductions have met a specified quality standard and complied with the Reserve’s procedures and approved forecast methodologies. This is a mandatory course for team leads wishing to perform confirmation of projects under Climate Forward. The training will cover the activities and procedures for completing confirmation of projects under the Climate Forward program. In order to receive team lead certification\, you must pass the course examination. \nRegister here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/confirmation-body-training-for-climate-forward-tickets-143183402411

SUMMARY:How to Source GHG Credits as an Offsite Mitigation Measure under CEQA
DESCRIPTION:Register here: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/843252160431629071 \nThis webinar will share practical information on how projects can source GHG credits for CEQA compliance including incorporating local GHG credits as part of their offsite mitigation measures. Participants will learn about using ex-ante credits from GHG emissions reduction projects to help finance and secure offsite reductions with multiple co-benefits for local communities. To illustrate this approach\, the webinar will discuss several real-world examples\, including the Reserve’s Climate Forward program and how the program’s Forecasted Mitigation Units helped finance solar projects in low income communities in LA County. Speakers will share insight to the GHG credit market for CEQA\, provide context for the regulatory landscape for local mitigation\, and discuss the credit transaction and retirement process. This webinar will also discuss the carbon project design process\, including project structure and costs\, as well as project benefits and future opportunities for local mitigation. \nSpeakers:\nSeth Jacobson\, Senior Director\, Energy & Water Programs\, Climate Resolve\nRobert Z. Lee\, Program Director\, Climate Action Reserve\nJohn McDougal\, Vice President of Environmental Products\, Element Markets

SUMMARY:Introduction to the Climate Forward Mature Forest Management Forecast Methodology
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an upcoming webinar on the Climate Forward Mature Forest Management Forecast Methodology \nWednesday\, April 15\n9:00 am – 10:30 am PT\nRegister here \nThe Climate Forward Mature Forest Management Forecast Methodology is designed to incentivize management to increase carbon stocking on forest lands while promoting mature forest conditions\, as characterized by the presence of older and larger trees. Crediting is based on projected increases in carbon stocks under the project\, as guided by the conservation easement containing required terms\, relative to the baseline scenario. Projects registering under this methodology are issued FMUs which may be used by companies to mitigate forecasted (i.e.\, future) operational and/or project related GHG emissions. This webinar will provide an overview of the methodology\, including requirements for eligibility\, quantification\, reporting and confirmation.
